Cycles in Nature: In “Robin’s Nest,” the focal point of the piece--the robin’s nest--has been created from the very fabric of the piece’s background, as threads have visibly been unraveled from the bottom of the fabric and used to form the nest. As the viewer makes this visual and logical connection, the bird forages for nest material in the mind’s eye, creating motion and memory from a single, static image. This evokes the loop of purpose and repurpose that all matter in the universe undergoes. The piece also plays with dimension, as leaves depicted falling from the tree are made to emerge out from the background through the use of wire, entering the three-dimensional world of the viewer. Finally, the loose threads at the bottom of the piece flutter in the natural air currents of the room, adding literal motion to the stylized depiction of motion in the piece.
